Boxes – Jonna Theatre School Belgium

A landscape of boxes dominated the stage the Jonna Theatre School performed the play on. This play broke with every traditional storyline, there was nothing like a connected plot. Instead, the spectator could experience several people, of both genders and of every age, rummaging in their “boxes of memory”, respectively their minds. Out came brief, but very intense episodes of some unique characters’ lives, each one both tragic and humorous at once. The acting was really convincing and perfectly suggested in how far the events the protagonists talked about shaped themselves. Personally, I completely agree with the play’s message that memories largely determine our lives, in positive as well as in negative ways. Negative memories, for instance, are the main reasons for stereotypes. I do not know if I may speak for the whole of the audience, but this performance was a magnificent one.
